Windows 7 support for TPM 2.0 devices
Summary
This article describes a hotfix that adds support for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 devices in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This hotfix is only applicable to Kabylake platform products and requires a specific driver to be installed. Without the hotfix and driver, the TPM device will not be recognized and will appear as "ACPI\MSFT0101" in Device Manager.
Details
The hotfix and driver package is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center. To install the hotfix, you must have Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed. After installing the hotfix, you must also install the ACPI driver for your specific Kabylake platform product. The driver can be downloaded from the Intel website.
Once the hotfix and driver are installed, the TPM device should be recognized and will no longer appear as "ACPI\MSFT0101" in Device Manager. You can then use the TPM device with Windows 7.
