E. Coli Outbreak Linked to Food Item

113 People Sickened, Investigation Ongoing

An urgent health warning has been issued after an E. coli outbreak was linked to a nationally distributed food item. Some 113 people have become ill with E. coli in the past fortnight, and experts believe it could be linked to a specific food item.

The majority of the 113 cases detected since May 25 have been linked to a single outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating the outbreak and has not yet identified the source of the contamination.

The CDC advises people to avoid eating any food items that have been recalled or that they suspect may be contaminated with E. coli. Symptoms of E. coli infection can include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. In severe cases, E. coli infection can lead to kidney failure and even death.

If you think you may have been exposed to E. coli, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. The CDC is urging people to be vigilant about food safety and to take steps to avoid becoming ill.
