ETSU's Williams Set to Face Former Team Appalachian State

Former Appalachian State Mountaineer Quarterback to Play Against Alma Mater

Former Appalachian State Mountaineer quarterback Taylor Wilson will face his former team when ETSU travels to Boone, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Wilson, who started 46 games for Appalachian State from 2012–15, transferred to ETSU in January 2021 after spending the 2020 season at Missouri.

Wilson's Success at Appalachian State

Wilson was a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection and led the Mountaineers to three conference championships and two FCS national championships.

He finished his Appalachian State career with 10,166 passing yards and 91 touchdowns, both of which rank second in school history.

Wilson also rushed for 1,915 yards and 33 touchdowns, which rank fifth in school history.

Wilson's Expectations at ETSU

Wilson is expected to start at quarterback for ETSU this season.

He will be tasked with leading an offense that returns seven starters, including four offensive linemen.

ETSU is coming off a 3–8 season in 2021 but is hoping to improve with Wilson at the helm.

Appalachian State's Expectations

Appalachian State is coming off a 10–4 season in 2021 and is ranked No. 19 in the FCS preseason poll.

The Mountaineers return 15 starters, including eight on offense and seven on defense.

Appalachian State is hoping to win its fourth FCS national championship in the past seven years.
